And the winner is…

Rhombus Guys, the best pizza place in Grand Forks, recently held a fan-picked pizza contest with some unique selections. The winning pie was the one that was ordered the most.

The Conrad

The fan pizzas were:

• Hale Storm – Garlic alfredo, mozzarella, feta, bacon, shrimp, artichoke and jalapeno peppers.

• Vanderbilt – Garlic alfredo, spinach, chicken, bacon, onion, tomato, mushroom, cream cheese, feta and mozzarella.

• Alley Cat – Spicy marinara, mozzarella, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, pineapple and jalapeno peppers.

• Bloody Bluey (Bloody Mary Pizza) – Seasoned marinara (tobasco, Worcestershire, celery salt, lemon pepper), mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon, green olives and pickles.

• The Conrad – Marinara, mozzarella, provolone, pepperoni, chicken, steak, bacon, red peppers and cilantro.

• Yoshi’s Island – Honey BBQ sauce, mozzarella, pulled pork, chicken, bacon, onion, black olives, mushroom, pineapple and jalapeno peppers.

• The Doc – Chipotle marinara, mozzarella, shrimp, caramelized onions, tomato, cilantro and sour cream drizzle.

• Italian Stallion – Marinara, Italian sausage, capers, anchovies, red pepper flakes, garlic, kalamata olives and parsley.

• Cabo Chili Pizza – Marinara, Cajun seasoning, beef, sausage, red onion, red pepper, tomato, jalapeno peppers, kidney beans, tortilla chips, mozzarella, cheddar and sour cream.

The Vanderbilt (a close second place)

I was at Rhombus a week ago and was able to try the Vanderbilt and the Conrad. They were both delicious, but I thought the cilantro on the Conrad was a weird taste, but I’m not a huge fan of cilantro anyhow.

So, to get to the point, the winner of the pizza contest was Yoshi’s Island!

There’s also a new pizza of the month, the Steak and Eggs Breakfast Pizza.

Rhombus was also honored by Midwest Living as one of the top Midwest pizzerias!

  1. I love the pizza the place makes, but i have heard that they don’t make their own crust. How does a place that wins awards for best pizza and best crust not make it themselves? If i am wrong I apologize and will continue to eat the za no matter what.

    • I too have heard that the dough is frozen and from a company. That’s from a very reliable source. I’m not sure which company makes the crusts, but was told that due to the size (or lack thereof) if the kitchen, it’s just not feasible to make crusts in house. I think, though, that their crust is fairly good, not too thick and not too thin.

  2. We had Rhombus Guys pizza again about a week ago, and just like all previous times, my wife and I both came to the same conclusion: “I don’t get it.” There’s absolutely nothing special about it. I guess we were spoiled having eaten our fill of pizza in NY. It is “OK” for pizza in this part of the country (it shouldn’t have to be this way), but Mama Maria’s pizza is actually a better pie, and certainly has better sauce and crust. The only thing I can see where Rhombus excels is throwing a ton of stuff on the top, but that is not what makes a good pie.
