What’s Up With Dickey’s?

So Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, at the corner of Demers and Washington in Grand Forks, has been closed for the past few days. What gives?

Well from two pieces of paper posted on the front door, Dickey’s won’t be closed for long.

One sheet just read SORRY WE ARE CLOSED. Dickey’s

But another read “Dickey’s Barbecue closed due to mechanical problems and will re-open in a few days. We are sorry for any inconvenience.”

Now what these “mechanical problems” are, I have no idea. It must have been something really important like the smokers, but here’s hoping we won’t be deprived of delicious barbecue much longer!

UPDATE: I haven’t heard anything official, but this Dickey’s may be done. It’s off of the website’s franchise list when you look for Grand Forks. Stay tuned.

  1. Their good is disgusting and is reheated not cooked fresh daily . I was hoping they were out of business. Dickey’s is NOT BBQ!!!

  2. THAT PLACE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS!!! I HEARD FROM SEVERAL WORKERS. THAT PLACE WAS DISGUSTING ANYWAY!! THAT PLACE WAS NEVER BUSY AND YOU COULD TELL IT WAS SLOWLY LOSING BUSINESS. FAMOUS DAVES WOULD PUT IT TO SHAME! WE NEED FAMOUS DAVES IN GRAND FORKS!

  3. My guess is that it doesn’t reopen. Not shocking since I hardly see any cars in the parking lot ever. Been a few times as well and was not impressed. That location is not good for a restaurant.
Busy intersection does not equal success. Should have moved by all the shopping down south and it might have thrived.

      • Are you sure? This is posted on Albatross website.

NOTICE: Starting Tuesday June 25th, our hours of operation will be changing in preparation for a possible grand opening as early as August 1st. Until that time, we will be available by reservation only. Call us to reserve a tee time on one of our golf simulators, or if you’d like to reserve the restaurant for your group party or outing.

        • What is a possible grand opening months after opening? A search for investors? They will not reopen. They probably are into either Cisco or FoodServices for a nice piece of change and are cut off from deliveries. Beer is a cash and carry thing so no cash no beer. Liquor is a 30 day billing. No payment no liquor.

    • What is going to become a Hooters? I am not so sure Albatross will close, but I guess I have no sources, just seems awfully quick if that is the case.

  4. Took food out from Dickey’s once. Once was enough. It was gross US Foodservice meat, all gristly and disgusting.

  5. I for one am sad to see Dickey’s close. I loved their salads. The Briskets were great, too. But most of all I will miss seeing Josh and his team. Say what you want, but they are winners and gave it a GREAT shot.

Also props to Josh…for serving us…as a pilot in the Air Force. Yep, Josh came here as a result of the GFAFB.

    • I miss Dickey’s ate there about once a week. I know a lot of locals did not lik it but they they don’t like anything that is not normal for the area. I was hoping this one would last ad very sad to hear it is closing.

I miss Josh and his team as well and they did so much for Grand Foks includin great food for tailgating.

Grand Forks wants to grow but they don’t want to support anything that is new

  6. I went to Dickeys 5 times, 3 of those times I walked out with nothing as they had run out of ribs. all 3 times were on a Friday around 6pm. It made no sense. the 2 times I was able to eat there the food was very good. too bad. we could use a place like that.

    • I too left the place with out food because they had run out. It was closer to closing time than dinner time so I kind of understood. What infuriated me though was that I stood in line for 10 minutes only to find out that they had nothing but ribs and turkey. I think they should have maintained a sign letting you know what they had run out of to avoid angry customers waiting for nothing. I was also put off by the unsanitary looking conditions of some of the surfaces behind the counter.

      • Signifigant other wanted a “Loaded Potato” it was 5PM. They were out of them. He asked the gal how many they made a day and she said 6. Hello???? It’s supper time people want to eat???

  7. I agree with you @Michael! My signifigant other and I both got sick from their food about a week before they closed. Talked to Mgr and he apologized and said that the temp must not have been checked? Do you or anyone else on here know of anyone getting sick from their food? P.S. They gave us a gift card! LOL
